Fear not. This extension for Safari will hide any and every story from your eyes, if the hated character shows up in the pairing.

Download and install Block Fanfic Characters to avoid brain bleach and eye-gouging.

If you put your mental health at risk by reading fanfic, I imagine this will come in handy.

I haven’t tested this, but it may be a cure for the way DeviantArt’s HTML ads cause Safari’s memory usage to skyrocket if you don’t have Flash installed.

Modern websites are designed to be engaging and rewarding. They encourage you to keep coming back for more.

This is great when it means that the internet is becoming more useful in our lives, but sometimes it’s a problem.

With Mindful Browsing, you can block the websites that cause you these problems. Once blocked, if you try to visit one of these sites by following a link, clicking a bookmark, or typing the address, Mindful Browsing will show you a warning page reminding you that you blocked the site, and encouraging you to decide whether or not you really want to visit the site.

Just what I’ve been looking for.

Google is collecting a lot of data about how we use the web, even when you’re not using Google websites directly. The Google Alarm browser addon shows notifications, plays sound effects and keeps running stats about the % of websites you’ve visit with Google tracking bugs present: Google Analytics, Google AdSense, YouTube embeds and more.

Worth a look if you’re all too conscious of how much Google has invaded your life.

Much like Marc’s adaptation of ClickToFlash, except it replaces every <embed>, <object>, and <applet> element on a web page with a placeholder element during page-load.

Facebook Improved, unsurprisingly, improves Facebook. It removes modules you don’t need to see (the ever-present callout to create events, certain ad units). It puts the entire site into Helvetica. It bumps up bizarrely small fonts that Facebook employs in certain situations. And it makes sure you know when you’re writing on someone else’s wall.
