Make It Short by Junecloud

Make It Short is a URL shortener for Safari. Just click the toolbar button or choose “Make It Short” from a contextual menu, and a shorter URL for the page will pop up. Copy it and paste it anywhere you like—Twitter, Facebook, an email, or whatever.

Where possible, it uses canonical shortlinks (things like flic.kr and youtu.be; otherwise it uses your bit.ly or CloudApp account (or is.gd or TinyURL if you prefer those services). A great extension from the company behind Delivery Status. If only it offered a keyboard shortcut—preferably configurable—it would be perfect.

Shortenz Linkz by Trailing Zee Productions

The best link (URL) shortening extension for Safari 5.  It supports a dozen different shortening services.  And it allows you to tweet your short links directly to Twitter from right inside Safari 5.

You can click the toolbar button to shorten the link of the current page.

If you hold down the [option] key while clicking the toolbar button you can short the link and tweet that short link (as well as any other text you want to add) right to Twitter.  No copy/paste necessary.

Shortenz Linkz also adds contextual menus to help you shorten links in the current page.  So if you right click on any link in a web page you can shorten that link or even shorten and tweet that link.

No other shortening extension has more features or supports more services.

Shortly URL Shortener by Zhusee Zhang

Quickly shorten the url of your current browsing page with youtu.be for YouTube videos, flic.kr for Flickr photo pages and goo.gl for other pages. Shortly will add a button to your toolbar.

I’ll admit I’m hoping the developer will add support for Tumblr’s short URLs.
