Safari Extensions

After Google Reader Styles, which even is mentioned on Apple’s Extension Gallery, I’ve finished my second Safari Extension today. It’s called Facebook Chat Sound Changer and changes the annoying new alert sound of the Facebook Chat to the old and familiar “pop” sound. Just download, install and activate the extension and you’re done! The old chat alert will be automatically replaced with the old one. If you want to revert to the new alert, just deactivate the extension.

Makes Facebook useable. At least, that’s how I understand it. Milind’s pretty good at this kind of thing, so it’s probably worth checking out.

(And now that I’ve got this posted, I can reactivate Defacer, which removes most references to Facebook from the internet.)

Facebook recently made the text of people’s friends’ updates quite tiny. It is incredibly hard for both the young and the old to read friends’ feed now without being frustrated. readableWall solves this by enlarging only the text Facebook shrunk. Rest of the page stays in perfect order with absolutely no distortion. No more clumsy resizing of pages either!

Easily view your Facebook newsfeed, profile, notifications and inbox from any webpage.  Click on the Facebook icon in the toolbar and Facebook Quick View will appear in your browser window.  Click outside the Quick View and you are back where you started.  Quick View allows you to comment, like and much more.

Fluff Busting Purity (was Facebook Purity) cleans up your Facebook homepage by getting rid of all the application spam and other junk messages. There are numerous options so you can configure it how you like it, including a custom text filter that lets you hide messages posted to your feed that contain text that you choose.

Buttons for a social Safari! Currently supports Delicious, Tumblr and Facebook. It uses the official bookmarklet code for each service and therefore provides good integration.

Facebook Improved, unsurprisingly, improves Facebook. It removes modules you don’t need to see (the ever-present callout to create events, certain ad units). It puts the entire site into Helvetica. It bumps up bizarrely small fonts that Facebook employs in certain situations. And it makes sure you know when you’re writing on someone else’s wall.
