Amazon Search Bar by echodot
An Amazon search toolbar with links to commonly accessed areas of the site.
I’ll mention here that I have a deep and abiding hatred of browser toolbars, one I think is shared by much of the tech community. I’m going to end this post with a question mark so you can easily reply to let me know if you would rather not see any more of them (or at least not any that aren’t absolutely brilliant); if enough people say they don’t want to see them, I won’t post them here.

  7. jefflyall94 answered: no thanks - would LOVE an integrated search/address bar like chrome
  8. dajwhite answered: The font looks odd in the search box on the Windows version of Safari. It’s unreadable when you type in your search terms.
  9. aladdinboy answered: I’m not so into toolbars either. That was originally why I switched from Firefox to Safari.
  10. goddll answered: not any that aren’t absolutely brilliant
  11. qlam answered: Sorry but no browser toolbars please.
  12. grouperfish answered: no i hate em
  13. pixelgrazer answered: While I don’t user them, they are still extensions.

  16. josueblanco answered: These are a terrible waste. No more please.
  17. epicprose answered: I too have a love hate relationship with toolbars. Create a floating toolbar to call up with single click when needed u wud have hero status
  18. markmilian answered: Agreed, toolbars suck.
  19. ad7am answered: I hate toolbars, but I’d like to know what’s available just in case one meets a particular need.
  20. kxr answered: No toolbars please!
  21. pjroberts answered: Don’t like toolbars, but what about a drop down tool bar like the safari Find search bar? That would be cool.
  22. memos-and-musings answered: Hell to the no.
  23. bassguy answered: I wouldn’t post just any toolbar, but big sites like Amazon and Ebay could be useful.
  24. peternorman answered: Browser Toobars: “Sometime’s there just isn’t enough vomit in the world.”
  25. jeffsocean answered: I generally don’t like them either. However, I’d still like to see them on the page! Thanks for the awesome blog!
  26. xoodus answered: Oh, how I miss IE6. Filling half the screen real estate with search bars is the way forward! Not.
  27. joshcalvetti answered: I think it’d be better if there was a way to tie them into the search bar- like Inquisitor does.
  28. brentbillock answered: I wouldn’t rule them out entirely. But they have to have a very high benefit to required real estate ratio. I’m not sure this one qualifies.
  29. eridius answered: Toolbars suck in general, but honestly, I’d rather know they exist and not use them then not know they exist at all.
  30. natesilva answered: Presumably this toolbar links to Amazon using some guy’s affiliate code so he gets a kickback?
  31. mrkrayon answered: Unless they’re the second coming in toolbar form, don’t bother — toolbars are rarely necessary or as useful as they should be.
